The Dog Days are Over.

Yes, the dog days ARE over. Meaning that I will no longer just sit in my newly moved into house simply unpacking, but I will blog instead!

In my defense, however, we did move halfway across the country...is that a good excuse for not posting in over a month? Would it help if I added that my blackberry doesn't have a blogger app & we just got internet on Monday? Well, those are the only excuses I've got. So hopefully you understand- thank you if you do. *hugs*

Ahhh, its finally summer. Days filled of longboarding, shopping, tanning, late nights, beachy waves in sunkissed hair, & no makeup except sunscreen. Lovely. It really, truly is! This summer is different though, considering I've made my 11th move in my fifteen years of living, to yet another familiar place. I said goodbye to Virginia on June 24th, and hello to Illinois 2 days after. That means, if you passed 3rd grade math, I have been living here for almost a month. We have only been living in our house for 3 weeks though, so I'm happily surprised that we will be completely unpacked this weekend. All there's left to do is put down a few rugs & hang pictures. After you move every 18 months, you create a pretty good system if I do say so myself.

My new room is wondrous. We painted it a gorgeous pale yellow (Canary Song by Glidden to be exact) which goes perfectly with my new ivory & black DKNY quilt on my bed, & matching white furniture from IKEA. My previous rooms were very cluttered & nic-nacky so to speak, because I have a tendency to hold onto ridiculous things. But this bedroom is different. I simply love everything too too much to put random objects on every countertop. So my 'theme' was minimalist...something that I most certainly am not.

My desk is also in my room at this house because my room has more space. So I get to keep my most beloved laptop right by my side. Hopefully that will mean its going to be a constant reminder to blog, but who knows. Like I've said previously, I will try my best to commit to this thing. :)

Sadly, I have no pictures for you all.I know, I know, this post is utterly boring. But I simply haven't had time to take pretty pictures with all the unpacking. I apologize!

Driving & Shopping &Thrifting

If you read yesterday's post, you'll know that today I took my driving permit test. So this morning, my mom & I drove to our DMV (which happens to be in our favorite mall...a definite plus.) & camped out in the line that's always out the door. Even at 9:30 AM. Those DMV employees will never have to worry about losing their jobs.
I'm a crammer, so of course I was up until 11:45 studying last night. Because instead of studying the material for the test over the past week or so, I have been practicing my pose for my picture. You're not allowed to show your teeth when you smile, & I have a toothy-grin, so I opted for my typical pose, this one:

We'll see how it turns out in 7-10 business days. And my signature I was unprepared for, but I'm happy with the outcome. Just barely legible, but still choppy. Me gusta.
Oh yeah, the actual test. I PASSED! I only missed one (Still haven't figured out how that's possible, but oh well.) of the 25 questions. So watch out world- Marissa's got herself legal permission to drive (& I don't even know how to turn my headlights on...!) Poor parental units who are responsible for teaching me. I'm going to give my dear mother a heart attack I imagine.
Then since we were RIGHT IN THE MALL, we of course had to stop by to do some shopping in our favorite stores...! Mom's excuse was that Talbots was having their red hanger sale & she had her 20% off birthday coupon, so she just had to use it before it expired. Then having the teenage budget I have, I headed onto Forever 21 & Gap where I could actually afford something!  Then we headed to our favorite thrift store & we both found quite a few diamonds in the rough.
   Here's what I found:

Yes, I'd say it's been a very successful day. Back to school tomorrow- ugh. At least it's a half day & I'm chillin' with Miriam afterwards. Should be fun.(:

G'night loves

Let the Exams Begin...

Today was the start to my final exams.
Booo.
I don't care if school is a half day because of them. They don't feed me, & make me sit in a classroom for 2 hours taking a test. I'm mostly upset by the fact that they don't feed me. I mean, C'MON! I've wasted all my time going there, I deserve to be fed!
*sighs* oh well.
Tomorrow's graduation, which means NO SCHOOL FOR ME! Instead, I get to go to the DMV in hopes of passing my permit test. Is it odd that I have spent more time practicing posing for my permit picture than studying for the actual test? All of my friends look like they're totally wasted in their pictures, so I am DETERMINED to get a decent photo. It's going to be challenging since we're not allowed to show our teeth (or any signs of happiness), but I accept the challenge. After all, Tyra Banks taught me how to 'smile with my eyes'. See, all those America's Next Top Model Re-runs benefited me in one way or another. I'll let you guys know how it goes after I take the test.(:
I just painted my toenails liliacism by Essie. They're quite cute. I'm planning on doing my nails tomorrow in a cool tribal print. I'll post pictures, & maybe a tutorial? We'll see. :)

goodnight, loves!

Why, hello there.

Hello everyone!

Wow. This is my very first post on honeysuckles + pearls. To begin, I feel as though I should introduce myself.

My name is Marissa. I am a fifteen year old girl who lives in America, Virginia to be exact. But Virginia is by no means the only place I have ever lived. You see, my father is serving my country in the military, so I have moved ten times (going on eleven in two weeks) in my life. I started out in Florida, and somehow ended up here. It's been a crazy ride- & now its about to get crazier.
The movers come a week from tomorrow. Then our home will by filled with the all-too-familiar smell of cardboard boxes, and the sound of packaging tape being ripped. And the scary part is, this all has still not sunken in for me. I feel as though I'll just be chillin' in Virginia for the rest of my summer with all my friends. But in reality, I will be in Illinois unpacking boxes.
It's not all bad though. Two of my closest friends, Lilly & Kristen, live in Illinois. Kristen & I will be going to the same high school, & Lilly is within 15 minutes of driving distance.  So I really should be happy, but moving is always bittersweet. I've made the closest friends here in Virginia. They're part of the reason why I made this blog. It's so they can all check up on me & do their usual snooping into my life. Y'know, the norm.
Hmm, let's see, what else is interesting about me? Well, I have a shoe addiction. And an unhealthy adoration for all things that smell delicious. Fashion is a huge part of my life as well. However, I can't decide what this blog is going to be. Should I post daily outfit photos or should I just...blog? I'm hoping I can do a mixture of the two, but who knows. I'm trying not to plan this all out too much- just see where it all takes me. I'm asking for a dslr for christmas this year, so I'm really hoping that once I get it, I can include my photography on here as well. But you are all just going to have to deal with my bad-quality point & shoot for now.(:
I think that's all I have to say. Please follow! I know I'm just starting out, so I need all the help & tips I can get! You won't believe how many times I've tried starting a blog, but suddenly stopped because I got discouraged or forgot about it. But I'm really going to commit to honeysuckles + pearls because I feel like it has a lot of potential. Let's hope it lasts more than a month!

Thanks for reading
